We started our hike after a visit to La Patisserie in Llandovery, a fantastic gem of a bakery which I hope to be able to visit during the race! Shortly before Myddfai, just metres before getting onto the lane, there is a double kissing gate in the corner of a field, this would perhaps be easy to miss if it were dark. You can’t really see the gate until you walk right into the corner.

We stopped at the coffee shop in Myddfai which doubles up as a community hall, gift shop and more. We were given a very warm welcome and even invited to the folk dancing event being held that evening!

Leaving Myddfai and heading for the open fell, the Cambrian Way takes you up a seemingly pointless hill when there is a perfectly lovely and easier path around the side. We were rewarded for our efforts with a large rock.
Go up, not along…pass this rock…reach the top to see a rock!
We saw lots of red kites, got wet feet on the river crossing and generally had a good laugh, we certainly consumed more calories than burned. This section feels remote at times, Almond Lodge will be one of the checkpoints and it does sneak up on you!

Logistics Llandovery to Llanddeusant
We parked at Almond Lodge (used to be the YHA) The Old Red Lion, Llangadog SA19 9UL. I had spoken with Jon at the lodge the day before and he confirmed that a donation to Mountain Rescue would mean that we were fine to park. Incidentally, Jon is on the start list for the Calon Lân! I had pre-booked a taxi with Towy Taxi 07544 624411 to collect us and take us to La Patisserie, Llandovery SA20 0PT. The cost was £30.

I'm delighted to be a brand ambassador for FTP Endurance Fuels - I love their Energy Pastilles (alternative to gels) which are sustainable due to the waterproof reloadable energy chew storage pouch! Use discount code LIZZIEG10 at checkout for 10% off!
