Flat or
hilly?
A flat, fast loop gives you more rest per hour, but uses the same muscles over and over. Hills slow you down but give you natural walking breaks.
Neither is “easier”. It depends on what you train for and what you enjoy.
Approx. climb per yard, where published.

Your first
backyard?
You don’t have to jump straight into an open-ended race. A time-capped event or a flat loop is a friendly way to learn the rhythm.
Got your race?
I’d love to help with a plan built around it, from a 50-yard backyard ultra runner and qualified coach.
